Donaghadee Sailing Club would like to extend a warm welcome to all the topper class sailors, mums, dads, supporters, the ITCA & Topper Ireland as they are invited return to Donaghadee for the Topper Sprint’s Challenge! The ‘Topper Sprint’s Challenge’ has been absent from the calendar for a few years due to the pandemic. So welcome back to our club guys & girls!
The Event will take place on and around Donaghadee Sound with views of the Iconic Lighthouse, Harbour and the Copeland Islands as a scenic backdrop, on Saturday the 21st May 2022, as a 1 day sailing event.
So come along to Donaghadee, race your Topper in the challenge event, have a load of fun, and get to experience some of our weird, wonderful and infamous tidal streams as the tide ebbs & flows through the sound.
The emphasis of the Topper sprint’s challenge @ DSC is on a fun learning experience, it’s rather different to that of a normal Traveller race day or weekend. It’s all about getting proper competitive but fun practise at the start line, mark rounding, finishes, making new friends & having a well deserved laugh, so whether your a seasoned racer or just starting out on your topper journey this event is for you!
It’s a quickfire series of back to back races, with a start signal and flag approximately every 3 minutes for a new race for a pair of the flights. The individual races are planned to take between 10-15min to complete before you line up for the next race again.
The plan is for every participant have around 10 short races over the day with boats racing in flights (mini fleets) of 6 topper sailors, all identified by a coloured ribbon on the mast head. This will mean red flight vs green flight, blue vs brown etc. On Saturday afternoon the results will be compiled and no one will have any idea how they have faired, the winners of each flight competing in the finals.
We hope to see you there, should be a good days fun!
Closing date for Entries has been extended and now will be on Sunday 15th May at 11.59pm!
