2022 Cruise in comapny events blog
In June, 5 cruising yachts departed from either Donaghadee or Bangor marinas, heading north to the pretty little village and marina of Glenarm for the evening for a leisurely sail and a BBQ afterwards on the quayside, in what was to become the inaugural event in the DSC Cruise in Company calendar. We were blessed with fabulous sunshine, but unfortunately not too much wind for real sailing. The company was excellent though and a brilliant weekend was had by all.
We were blown away by the success of the trial, and quickly developed a programme for the rest of the sailing year.
Mid September saw another 7 yachts heading the 20 odd miles across the Irish Sea to Portpatrick in Scotland with seasoned and brand new sailors alike. A lively sail in good weather for September took its toil on a few, but a quiet afternoon in and around the village sorted everyone out. We used the local community buildings in the harbour during the Saturday evening to prepare and eat a wonderful selection of Jim Davenports best sirloins cooked to order by chef’s Danky and Kevin, accompanied by baked potatoes, garlic prawns and assortment of sides. Sunday seen us waiting a few hours relaxing & for the high tide to exit the harbour before heading home. A truly memorable weekend.
To finish off the 2023 season, a local trip took place over a weekend at the end of November. A wee gaunt to the ‘Big City of Belfast’. Some of us headed to the Ulster Rugby Match on arrival at Titanic Quarter Marina in the centre of the city, everyone visited the Christmas Market on Saturday, and we ended the day with a club Chinese meal in town, before heading back to the Marina for the rest of the evening. Certainly another one to be repeated.
