So what’s ‘WOW-WE’ all about then?
Are you a female, young or not so young, looking to get into water sport or sailing or already taking part, and would like another opportunity or change of scene?
Fancy getting on the water in a fun, friendly and safe environment with likeminded women?
Donaghadee Sailing Club’s new Women on Water on Wednesday Evenings (WOW-WE) encourages female members to enjoy water related activities safely. There is more than just sailing on offer! You are just as welcome to come and paddle as you are to come and sail. A range of dinghies, a yacht and paddle boards will be available.
We are a mixed ability group, from total beginner to round the world sailors. Our common aim is to encourage, support and help each other on the water, whilst also having a giggle and gossip.
WOW-WE activities take place on Wednesday evenings at 19:00 from May 4th through to the end of the summer sailing season – maybe September?
Lots of preparation and work going on in the background to get this project afloat. The girls have been busy getting their yacht ready to participate in a bit of social ‘Keel Boat’ racing on a Wednesday as the evenings start to get a bit longer at the beginning of May, when club ‘Wednesday evening’ sailing resumes!
‘A great days work – Finethann has had the first coat of varnish on the cockpit benches, topsides & coaming polished, taped up (thanks Kevin) and this afternoon the first coat of anti-foul went on. It started to rain just as we were having a post work cuppa. Going to try to get a second coat on tomorrow plus another of varnish if the weather is kind.’
“2nd coat of varnish on Finethann’s benches just now. Looks like it might drizzle a bit this afternoon but is anyone up for an attempt to apply a 2nd coat of antifouling later today?”
The Girls would like to express their gratitude & thanks to a longstanding DSC member Mr Jimmie McKee for the kind loan of his yacht ‘Finethann’, a hunter 19, for the forthcoming season, Susie and Kevin for the use of their driveway to complete the work, & to everyone else that has supported this endeavour – Thank You!.
