Topper Traveller Event Started At Least On Saturday 16th June 2012 at DSC

Huge thanks to Chris Burrows, Jimmie McKee, Donna & support team of 50 for exemplary organisation of TT. Taking 39 Toppers safely off the water (never mind Shirley&Norma out of the mothership!) before the whole seafront disappeared in the fog was a credit to all especially Richard Spence & the safety boat crews as well as Alvin Walker Beachmaster & his team (is it true they were nearly all female Alvin?). Special thanks too to Guy & Sandra Thomson for the use of their “big boat” as Committee boat. The fog did lift and they got safely back into Donaghadee Marina at 8.30pm. The next day of course was near perfect sailing weather………………………………

It may have had to abandoned before the first race was finished due to the infamous Donaghadee fog (never mind the tide and lack of wind)  but 39 Topper sailors had braved the elements to at least give it a go. We thank you for coming along from all arts&parts of Ireland despite the weather of the previous days and the forecasts. On a dreary Saturday morning all the boats of whatever shape & hue brought colour and life to Donaghadee’s famous seafront…at least until we could see it no longer!

Once again the organisation of the event led by Chris, with Donna and their team of 50 was exemplary. We can not thank every one from the Club enough for their support and enthusiasm as well as the safety boats & crew from Royal North, Ballyholme, Ards and the CCF. On land Coirle Butler, Heather Burrows and Orlagh Edgar fed& watered folk from 8am until 6pm with bacon butties, scones, cake, home made soup, sandwiches and finally burgers. For all the sponsorship in kind received from Centra Donaghadee, Jim Davenport Butchers, Asda, The Deli Donaghadee and the Co-op Donaghadee a further huge thank you.
