What a night – Bright Nights Sailing has started…..
Almost 80 Bright night sailors eventually took to the water over the course of the evening last Friday at DSC for the first of our summer series of BNS 2019!
A few ups and downs – mostly the wind! The winds were indeed a bit gusty at the the start of the evening with significant wind speeds into the 25+ knots as forecasted. Expecting the winds to moderate we had to delay the start of the sessions and shorten them slightly to give everyone booked an opportunity to get on the water, and perhaps not be capsized into it and put off for life. Once the tide came in a bit and we were able use the harbour as shelter! Mean whilst everyone stayed dry and warm in the club.
As planned we ran 3 sessions albeit slightly shorter than normal. After a short squall the weather settled and it turned into a lovely evening for our beginners and seasoned junior sailors alike!
There’s some great photos on the Club Facebook pages.
Afterwards there was board games, loads of smiling faces, damp and tired children & a few adults too, food, drinks, a tuck shop, and a family friendly atmosphere prevailed – the balcony room will be open this Friday night, and again the bar will be open for parents to relax during and afterwards, & as always family’s are welcome to stay afterwards.
Thanks to everyone that came and made all the hard work & preparations by our volunteers over the previous few weeks worth it!
If any parents would like to volunteer to help keep this event going please speak to a club member?
See you all again next Friday – we’ll hopefully have fair winds and get started on time. Please keep an eye on the website, and DSC Facebook Pages where we will update as soon as possible with any postponement / cancellation or changes to the event due to weather etc.
Don’t forget, same applies, get your place(s) booked again on Tuesday evening from 7pm on the DSC website. (There’s reported issues with participants not getting confirmation emails – this seems to be normal behaviour from the website for ‘free’ events, were looking into a solution – so please don’t panic if there’s no automated email from the club.)
Helms book here please to let us know your attending!
