2020 Sailing Season upon us!

The weather hasn’t been great for sailing this year yet with storm Ciara and Denis still causing havoc around the country – but things are progressing behind the scenes in preparation for the spring and the proper sailing season – however some of the juniors and adults have still been out sailing at either regional squads training and or local clubs over the winter, including the occasional really nice day at DSC !

The training team are hard at work sorting out all the regulatory items, ordering training materials, attending instructor training days, and agreeing what and when we’ll offer for junior and adult training courses for sailing, first aid, vhf radio, and powerboat level2 / safety boat. The RYA first aid course is already on the booking system – so if you wish to attend get it booked!

RYA First aid course for all safety boat crews, instructors and regular helpers!

What out too for some of the regular and ‘new’ events at DSC this year too… Friday BNS will be back in May, and we’ll also be taking part in the national RYA ‘Discover Sailing’ events -so get all your friends and family signed up for those when they become available to book!

Some major work is ongoing with the safety boats, we were fortunate to receive a grant from the National Lottery (many thanks to all those involved in the application and to the National Lottery for the funding!) to replace the faulty engine on one of the Reday ribs, so that’s off being prepared for the installation of the engine, new electrics and fuel systems to keep it operational and compliant with regulations for another number of years, and having the old antifouls removed, and gel coat repaired.

And not to forget the ‘House’ team (Not the tufty club) who meet every Thursday morning, also hard at work keeping on top of the maintenance work in and around the clubhouse, grounds and dingy parks, ensuring they’re welcoming for all our members and visitors alike.
